 Qian Xuesen (November 11, 1911 – February 14, 2009), born in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, was a renowned aerospace engineer, scientist, and missile technology expert. He was a leading figure in the development of China's aerospace and missile industries, and is widely regarded as the "Father of China's Missile Technology."

Qian received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from MIT in 1936, and later earned his master's and doctoral degrees in aeronautical engineering from Caltech in 1939 and 1940, respectively. He then worked as a research fellow at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and later became an assistant professor there.

During World War II, Qian participated in the Manhattan Project, where he made significant contributions to the development of the first atomic bomb. After the war, he began to focus on missile technology and became a leading figure in the field of aerospace engineering.

In 1955, Qian returned to China, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the country's missile and aerospace programs. He served as the director of the Ministry of Aerospace Industry, and under his leadership, China successfully developed and tested its first missile in 1964 and its first atomic bomb in 1967.

Qian's contributions to China's aerospace and missile industries were immense, and his work helped to establish the country as a major global player in the field. He was awarded numerous honors and decorations throughout his career, including the National Medal of Science and the Orders of Independence and Merit.
